If there’s one constant thread woven through my life, it’s a love of reading. Since childhood, books have been my refuge, my adventure, and my favorite form of company. While other kids were busy with dolls and video games, I was turning the pages of Nancy Drew mysteries, determined to finish every single volume my local library carried. Today, as a professor, a mom, and a writer, my time for reading is rarer, but perhaps more precious than ever. When I do carve out those quiet hours, I choose books with intention—stories that offer either a window into Old Hollywood glamour, a stroll through the fashions of the 1960s, or a delightful romantic comedy set in dazzling places.
That’s why I couldn’t be more excited to share with you Four Seasons at Angelino’s, the debut novel by my dear friend and colleague Caroline McBride. The book officially launches today and is available through Amazon, Target, Barnes & Noble, BAM!, and IndieBound.
Caroline’s story follows Charlotte, a restaurant PR executive whose glamorous job sends her traveling across the world. Along the way, she’s not only navigating career chaos but also seeking “the one”—with hilarious, heartfelt, and sometimes cringe-worthy detours in romance. Spanning a full year, the novel brings readers to iconic destinations while balancing lighthearted escapism with meaningful themes of love, perseverance, and self-discovery. In short: it’s the ideal summer read.
Recently, I had the chance to chat with Caroline about her path to writing, the inspiration behind Four Seasons at Angelino’s, and the role her real-life adventures played in shaping the story.
On Her Journey So Far
Caroline describes herself as a “citizen of the world,” though her roots are in the coastal town of Seal Beach, California. After earning her degree in political science at Loyola Marymount University, she pursued a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship that took her to the Netherlands, where she completed her Master’s degree in International Relations.
Her career has been anything but linear—she’s worked in political fundraising, dabbled in modeling, taught high school, and even handled business affairs at New Line Cinema. Eventually, she landed in New York City, where she became a licensed nonprofit fundraiser, raising millions for foster children through an art-driven charity initiative.
For over a decade now, Caroline has thrived as the Director of Public Relations for Serafina Restaurant Group, helping launch restaurants around the globe while consulting with other clients in industries as diverse as beauty and film.
On Writing Her First Novel
The idea for Four Seasons at Angelino’s was born out of both love and loss. Caroline’s partner, who passed away in 2018, had always encouraged her to write a book. “It felt serendipitous,” she shared. “My mind is always full of story ideas, and I wanted to make him proud.” Romantic comedy was a natural fit—her favorite genre—because, as she puts it, “who doesn’t want a happy ending?”
Drawing from her own whirlwind of experiences traveling for restaurant launches, Caroline set out to write a satirical, heartfelt story that captures both the chaos of the hospitality industry and the relatable struggles of modern romance.
On Real-Life Inspirations
Each chapter of the novel is tied to a different city, and Caroline insists on only writing about places she’s personally visited. That way, readers get a vivid, realistic taste of the sights, sounds, and flavors of each locale. From iconic restaurants to the mishaps that often happen behind the scenes, her years in PR provided no shortage of inspiration.
And while Charlotte’s love life in the book is pure fiction (with plenty of juicy twists), Caroline admits that her character’s frantic search for love while juggling career demands might feel familiar to many women. “Charlotte is a bit of a trainwreck,” she laughs. “But aren’t we all, sometimes?”
On What She Hopes Readers Will Take Away
Caroline wants her book to be more than just a fun escape—though it certainly delivers that. She hopes readers will connect with Charlotte’s challenges and see themselves in her missteps, triumphs, and growth. “I want women to know they’re not alone. Life can feel messy, but perseverance, communication, and patience can carry you through.”
She also sprinkles in a bit of wisdom: closed mouths don’t get fed. Whether in the workplace or in love, she emphasizes the importance of speaking up, claiming your space, and advocating for what you need.
And for the men who pick up her novel? Caroline laughs, “Maybe they’ll get a tiny glimpse of how tough it can be to be a woman. But I’m keeping expectations low.”
On Favorite Destinations
Naturally, with travel playing such a big role in both her personal life and her novel, Caroline has her list of favorite destinations at the ready. Internationally, she adores the French Riviera—especially Cap Estel—as well as London, Paris, Rome, Buenos Aires, and Marbella. Stateside, she gravitates toward Monterey, Aspen, Santa Fe, New Orleans, Portland, Seattle, and Miami.
Why You’ll Want This Book on Your Summer List
With its blend of witty romance, international travel, and relatable life lessons, Four Seasons at Angelino’s feels tailor-made for lazy afternoons, poolside lounging, or even a cozy evening on the couch. Caroline’s voice shines through on every page, offering a story that is both indulgent and heartfelt, glamorous yet grounded.
For me, it’s the perfect reminder of why I fell in love with books in the first place: they can transport us anywhere, open windows into lives we’ve never lived, and remind us that even in chaos, joy and connection are always possible.
